COURSES
Simon holds regular courses at his
workshop in Vall d'Alba - nestled amongst almond
groves in a small community with a thriving
village just a mile away. This region of eastern
Spain is relatively undiscovered and has
mountains and hillsides to explore, a mild, dry
climate, with unspoilt beaches 30 minutes drive
away. The 'El Cid' countryside will appeal to
artists and fossil hunters alike with many dry
riverbeds to wander through - We can offer non
potting partners a holiday at the same time.
Simon can teach all levels of students from
beginners through to post graduates wishing to
perfect a particular area of their throwing.

TUITION
Each 5 day course takes place at Masia
Isa where Simon has workshops, kiln room and
showroom with space for 4 students on any
course. The students will each have an electric
wheel assigned to them and during the week have
the opportunity to 'try their leg' on a kick
wheel - which appear to be enjoying a revival at
the minute.
The courses are tailored to the individual
students but follow a planned sequence of
throwing from cylinders through bowls and flat
shapes alongside general workshop techniques
such as kneading and preparing clay, turning and
handling and basic glazes.
If the students wish a brief introduction to
Raku can be included on the last afternoon, with
students using previously biscuit fired pots to
try their glazing on.
On a 5 day course the student will not be able
to fire their own work as the course is aimed at
increasing confidence and skill in throwing. A
10 day course can include a glaze firing of a
few items of each students' work.
The workday starts at 09.30 and finishes at
17.00 with refreshment and lunch breaks during
that time. Students are welcome to stay later to
continue their own work, likewise at the weekend
between on a 10 day course the workshops will
remain open and although Simon does not formally
teach during these hours he is generally around
for advice.
Most of the dates given for the 5 day courses
can be extended to 10 days at the time of
booking.
Price for 5 day course - 600€ - full board
Price for 10 day course - 1200€ including
accommodation for the Saturday night between
teaching sessions
1 day and private lessons based on a hourly rate
are available.
The prices above include all materials (clays
and glazes). Students generally prefer to use
their own tools so please bring these if
possible along with your aprons. For students
new to potting we can loan tools for use during
the course and would not advise anyone to
purchase anything specifically for the course. |

ACCOMMODATION
Depending on the number of
students on each course we base the
accommodation in one of several local
guest houses in the area - all
farmhouses in the countryside.
We will provide transport between the
accommodation and pottery for any
student not wishing to hire a car.
Accommodation is for 6 nights commencing
the night prior to the course and
finishing after breakfast on the
Saturday and is in single rooms.
All meals are provided with continental
style breakfast and a light buffet style
supper at the guest house. Mid morning
and afternoon refreshments are offered
at the pottery and the midday meal -
based around our local, seasonal
products - shared by us all at the
pottery. Vegetarian and diabetic diets
are easily catered for.
